The brief for the design was to come up with a brand and design that would capture the vibrancy of a Malaysian street market, but in a contemporary and ownable way.

For the brand itself (which translates as ‘taste’ in Malaysian), we started by developing a graphic design route based on an contemporary abstraction of Pucuk Rebung (a well known symbol of the bamboo shoot, which can be found in Malaysian culture). For the interior itself, we have picked up on familiar elements like the hawker stalls, imperial architecture and playing of silent black and white movies to create a vibrant, eclectic but contemporary design.
